The countdown continues with the top 15 keys every CEO and their team needs for success beyond the tipping point – the theme of Outsell’s 10th Anniversary Signature Event.
Key 1: Have a plan for cognitive computing, AI and the future of work.
At our 2014 Signature Event in Versailles, closing keynote Ben Hammersley, Journalist, Futurist, and Technologist, remarked that we are on the brink of a revolution. The timing of those comments and where they were said was not lost on us, but his remarks centered on Moore’s Law and that within 10 years the power of Watson will be in our cell phones. That was two years ago and we are well on our way. When that happens a host of white collar jobs will be toast and our industry serves white collar jobs. Cognitive computing will ensure that basic jobs like legal research, or not so basic, like reading x-rays and MRIs, will be done by computers. Suddenly it’s not just factory workers being replaced by automation- or bank tellers or toll takers. We’ll see design automation go straight to 3D printing and we’ll see lawyers, doctors, credit risk ‘authorizers’ and other repeatable job functions go by the wayside. And when this structural change occurs alongside IoT, and blockchain – look out because a tsunami is on the horizon especially in commerce. Any media company out there needs to listen.
Richard Susskind, author of The Future of Work, is a preeminent authority on this topic, and that’s why we selected him to kick-off our 10th anniversary event. Where will all your customers go? We have answers. Register here—you won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to evaluate the future of your market.
Key 2: Have a plan for the global economy.
Our industry ebbs and flows with GDP and Outsell believes the economy is slowing down in emerging markets, with the exception of India, and that the UK and EU are now too at risk. The US alone is an important information market but it’s not a fast growing one. Where is the fuel for the economy and thus our industry? You can’t miss Chris Giles, Economic Editor of Financial Times, who is an all-time favorite at this event and who is quite literally in the catbirds seat of the biggest news shaping the economy for the rest of this year and into next. He is forecasting choppy waters ahead. Find out why.
Stay tuned for our other keys to success— I’ll be writing about Outsell’s point of view each week and invite you to Outsell’s Signature Event at the fabulous Hotel Corinthia in London October 5-7, 2016.
