In came an email the other day:
I thought, OK grow revenue 50%. You’ve got my attention, Hannah. Not a bad note. But she asked me if I had time this week on a Saturday afternoon. I’m not hanging around reading emails from marketers on weekend afternoons.
By Monday at 3 pm I get this:
So to Grow and Hannah I say this— your marketing tactics aren’t cute. They aren’t effective and they don’t work. You can’t email a CEO on a Saturday, say you’ve tried to reach them a half day later (in business days), and then insult your prospect by inferring they’ve been eaten by alligators or (pun intended, I presume) are swamped. To further insult by saying “you’re sunk” if you don’t buy my product is even more ridiculous. If this is how Grow wants to brand itself, fine. But leave me and most any other CEO off the list. And last I knew, KPI dashboards don’t need SaaS for entrepreneurs to manage their business. Anyone thinking this is a SaaS product with legs instead of a feature in someone else’s solution package is drinking venture capital Kool-Aid. And pick a better name. A search for Grow yields marijuana dispensaries, food and ag links and health & wellness sites. Dumb branding. Dumb marketing. A marketing don’t if there ever was one.
