New Horizons in Information Management: Setting Up Shop in China

Author: Joanne Lustig, Vice President & Lead Analyst

Information managers are increasingly tasked with supporting their companies’ expansions into Asia. With China as the largest-growing Asian market, focus is intensifying on the development of information services to support this region. To provide a venue for the exchange of experience, knowledge, and practice among information professionals developing services both in and in support of China, in September 2008, Outsell hosted a forum titled “Setting Up Shop in China.” This Briefing summarizes the information exchanged during that forum and provides additional material. Outsell plans further Briefings on this topic in the coming year. This Briefing contains:

- Tips for handling hiring, including education requirements, recruitment techniques, and attitudes about intellectual property;
- Practices and tactics for managing the information service after it’s set up;
- Strategies for managing information resources;
- Imperatives for information managers looking to set up shop in China.
