Information Security as a Strategic Issue for Institutions
In an age of growing Internet criminality, it is not surprising that higher education institutions - which store vast amounts of student, alumni, and staff data - are seeing increases in the volume and sophistication of hacker attacks on their campus networks. The frequency of these attacks has led to federal and state regulations aimed at strengthening privacy protections at organizations that maintain personal information in electronic formats.
Today, institutional purchasing and deployment of security technology is increasingly being guided by information security plans, managed by dedicated information security staff, and supplemented with information security policies and training directed at end-users.
