Summer School and After-School Programs: Current Trends and Funding Opportunities
Inquiry Overview
An education company with a focus on college preparation was interested in custom research to collect (1) overall summer school and after-school trends, (2) funding opportunities, (3) perceived district needs, and (4) profiles of summer school and after-school service providers. This information was to be used to evaluate product expansion possibilities.
Key Questions
- What is the landscape for academic summer school programs, in particular those focusing on mathematics and sciences, at a state level?
- What are the funding opportunities for summer schools and after-school programs? What are the spending constraints?
- Who are the summer school and after-school partners/providers of existing state/district academic programs for adolescents?
- Do states/districts perceive a need for additional programmatic interventions that can assure success in transitioning elementary students to middle school and middle school students to high school?
- What are the different ways districts help kids at the middle school and high school levels develop study skills? How are these initiatives funded? How much is spent?
Methodology
For this custom inquiry, Eduventures conducted interviews with 12 district administrators and three state-level administrators. Also, secondary research methods were used to gather information on current trends, funding, and competitor profiles.
