Inquiry Overview

An educational publisher was interested in intelligence on the use of educational games (board, video, etc.) in K-12 education. Specifically, the publisher wanted to better understand how games are currently used in the classroom, and their effectiveness as a teaching tool.

Key Questions

  • What types of games are being used and how are they integrated into the classroom?

  • How long have games been used and how do schools measure their success?

  • What are the barriers to using video games for educational purposes?

  • How are video games integrated into classrooms and curriculum?

  • Are schools likely to use video game consoles or handhelds as delivery platforms?

Methodology

For this custom inquiry, Eduventures conducted 12 interviews with district administrators and teachers. Eduventures attempted to distribute interviews by district size, location, grade level, and subject area when possible given the small sample size.
