Corporate User Report: Engineering Professionals
This Briefing represents the next in our series that examines information profiles of specific functional groups of users. Engineering is an information-intensive profession, and these workers spend just over 15 percent of their total workweek engaged in activities related to external information. In the US alone, this translates to $22.5 billion worth of engineers' time each year devoted to information tasks. Though like other professionals, engineers have adopted the Internet as a research tool, in some respects, they're surprisingly 'low-tech' in their approach to information. Engineers are a challenging functional group to serve, but they value information highly and appreciate a well-designed information environment.
