Tracking Third Quarter 2002: Recovery Continues And Broadens, Driven By Acquisitions

Author: Don McLagan, Analyst

This Briefing presents the most recent quarterly tracking data on the Outsell 60 Company Monitor, which measures the Information Content (IC) Industry's performance through analysis of 60 key publicly traded companies. Overall growth for the industry was 5.1 percent in the quarter, and there are no signs of a double-dip recession here. The recovery is actually broadening, with 36 companies showing growing revenues in the third quarter, as compared with 29 in the second quarter. The key driver of growth, however, was acquisitions. Organic growth (without acquisitions) and profitability were still hard elusive for many companies in the Outsell 60. The Briefing analyzes the full Outsell 60 by company size, geography, vertical markets, and company types. This Briefing offers IC industry watchers a good look at the financial state of the industry, and provides content companies a good measure of their own performance on the road to recovery.
