Cara EricksonManaging Partner, NewCoordinates, LLC

Cara Erickson is Managing Partner of NewCoordinates, LLC, a New York-based boutique executive search consultancy that she founded in 2006. Her focus is on helping media and information companies to identify, assess, and recruit the talent that will help them succeed in the multi-platform media environment. A leading industry consultant with 15+ years’ client-side experience in publishing, news, and interactive media businesses, she built one of the first search practices focused on the New Media industries starting in the late '90s. NewCoordinates’ client roster includes media and B2B information companies as well as early-stage digital content, commerce, and media solutions businesses and their investors.

More About Cara
Favorite reads: Storytellers like Pat Conroy, Barbara Kingsolver, Herman Wouk; current business and social commentators, a la Malcolm Gladwell
Movies I like: Independent films, documentaries, comedies and dramas with heart, and anything with Meryl Streep
Music I listen to: Eclectic, from Baroque and Romantic to Simon & Garfunkel and American Idol winners, depending on my mood and the venue. Enjoy podcasts from Slate’s Gabfest, and The Moth.
Favorite places: New York City, New England, Santa Fe, Tuscany
Where I grew up: Suburban New York City, north of the city. I currently divide my time between there and Manhattan; so geographically, I haven’t strayed far.
First summer jobs: Selling "free" classified ads by phone for a local shopping publication - an early warning lesson on "free" as a business model. Working the weekend early shift at Dunkin' Donuts, where I learned nothing relevant to my later career.
Activities outside work: Family; balancing empty-nester freedoms with the demands of a needy cocker spaniel; discovering serendipitous new things in NYC, film-going, bookstore-browsing, consuming news and media in all forms; nascent blogging efforts and social media dabbling.
