Position Description
The Senior Market Analyst for product evaluation will be a key member of the enterprise Information Management Team and play a leadership role in shaping the overall direction and supporting Outsell’s research agenda for enterprise content buyer clients. This role will have direct responsibility for all Outsell research and editorial programs for evaluating information publisher and provider products. This role interacts daily with information management leaders in the enterprise, academia, and government to shape the most innovative and authoritative product evaluation research agenda and voice in the marketplace. This role reports directly to the Chief Analyst of the company.
The Senior Market Analyst will create a network of free-lance product evaluation specialists, tapping social media and Web 2.0 means of recruiting and creating an engine for user-generated content, delivering a variety of syndicated research reports and product evaluation comparisons and briefs. This role will advise senior-level clients about traditional and innovative information products, selecting the optimal product portfolio for the enterprise, and will work with our sales team to drive business in this segment, as a strategic partner to clients.
The Senior Market Analyst will be an integral member of a team committed to delivering satisfied clients, top-notch research, and financial performance to the firm and driving a business within a business while serving the enterprise content buying market. The successful candidate will be committed to delivering the highest-quality service to support client satisfaction and retention as well as program growth. In addition, this role focuses on the analytic coverage to support Outsell revenue retention and growth across industry segments.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Evaluation Research and Publishing – Work with other team members to drive the syndicated research agenda necessary to satisfy clients and drive growth in our product evaluation coverage and practice area.
- Manage a monthly research and editorial calendar focused on product evaluation reports based on survey and analysis data from product users.
- Lead monthly vendor product briefing conference calls with leading product vendors’ marketing teams to understand product direction, market messaging, client wins, and strategic direction; liaise with vendor analyst team to join calls and/or triangulate points of view.
- Lead the user-generated product ratings and reviews community for all product categories.
- Participate in leading industry events as a featured speaker based on product insights.
- Deliver regular webinars on innovation in information products.
- Publish daily on-key buyer challenges with current product in the market, vendor customer wins and losses, and product-related events.
- This role also encompasses the lead analyst and client account management responsibilities for existing accounts within assigned industry segments.
- Handle analyst access requests from clients who seek top-of-mind expertise about product selection best practices and processes.
- Manage research projects and freelancers.
- Use appropriate secondary and primary research methodologies to support research agenda objective(s) (e.g., searching databases and websites, conducting phone interviews, launching web surveys, mining and analyzing large datasets).
- Understand and support setting team financial goals; support business development activities; achieve service renewal rates.
- Establish strong visibility as a thought for enterprise information product portfolio strategies by representing Outsell in the space and by shaping the most innovative and authoritative research agenda and voice in the marketplace.
- Support building group best practices and processes.
- Contribute regularly and collaboratively to colleagues’ research projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years of content creation or product marketing experience.
- Master’s degree preferred (e.g., Business, Marketing, Technology).
- Direct information industry exposure to product development challenges, procurement practices, enterprise content buyer pain points across the marketplace.
- Frequently published and quoted on issues within the information industry markets.
- Proven results in building online interactive B2B communities of users with an emphasis on user-generated content creation and publishing.
- Direct leadership experience in the development and delivery of a regular schedule of editorial publishing, product reviews, case studies, white papers and product evaluation reports.
- Experience with social networking technology, online survey tools and content management software.
- Ability to analyze research results and transform this analysis into strong and clear graphics and business insights/recommendations.
- Excellent writing, oral communication, analytic, and project management skills.
- Strong interviewing and data analysis skills; proficiency with Excel (SPSS a plus).
- A self-starter with superior attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Able to work independently in an environment with multiple goals and projects while delivering quality work consistently and on schedule.

Compensation
Compensation includes a combination of base salary, bonus, and stock options. Location is wherever the candidate lives, as the firm has a small headquarters in Burlingame, California, with the majority of employees in a home-based work environment.
