Position Description

The Director, Business Development will meet or exceed annual quotas, representing and selling all Outsell, Inc. lines of business by generating leads, identifying and qualifying prospects, presenting and closing new business.

The Director, Business Development is committed to delivering the highest quality of service to clients to support client satisfaction, retention, and program growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve the STM (Scientific, Technical & Medical) publishing market worldwide;
  • Prospect, qualify, and close new subscription and custom business opportunities and build a baseline pipeline that allows you to exceed your sales plan;
  • Work with Lead Analysts to build the business in your assignment while renewing all existing accounts in your assignment to exceed 85%;
  • Ongoing monthly international and domestic travel;
  • Work with all team members to help team achieve its goals;
  • Meet or exceed quota;
  • Must develop, maintain, and manage a consistent new business pipeline;
  • Support building group best practices and processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 6-10 years of professional sales experience;
  • Experience selling intangibles such as advisory and consulting services preferred;
  • BA degree or higher required;
  • Must be able to effectively sell to multiple levels in an organization, from Director to President/CEO;
  • Excellent writing, oral communication, analytic, and project management and presentation skills;
  • A self-starter with superior attention to detail and exceptional organization skills;
  • Able to work independently in an environment with multiple goals and projects, and to deliver consistent quality, on schedule;
  • Is flexible and responds positively to new challenges and opportunities;
  • Strong leadership and people skills, with the ability to manage people, projects, and processes;
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed quota;
  • Demonstrated maturity and professionalism;
  • Ability to execute on Outsell’s core values.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation includes a combination of base salary and commission on completed sales.
